OVERVIEW
THE GAME SHOW
Game Shows fling us into an absurd alternate reality. Enthusiastic show hosts with quirky contestants, perfectly timed applause and laughter, are all magnified and encompassed by bold colours, spotlights, LED bulbs, and graphic set design.
THE BIG Q
The Game Show will be the playground for The Big Q. We can merge humour and tropes from familiar shows with the frustration of unsolvable riddles. The Barclays App contestant breezes through their own task so fast they even have time to help the other contestant complete theirs.

VISUALS
ART DIRECTION
To touch on the nostalgia of Game Show aesthetics, we can nod to retro with bold colourful art direction in the Barclays colour palette. A block colour backdrop with suspended graphic cutouts to add depth. A hint of sparkle and LED bulbs, with stylised characters sitting at game show podiums.

VISUALS
CINEMATOGRAPHY
Jump zooms capture the panicked expressions of the losing contestant, with whip pans to the smug look on the Barclays contestants face. From close ups we track back to reveal wide shots of the contrast between the two. These camera movements create a stylistic take on live TV filming while maintaining the comedy.
Lighting will emulate the Game Show style: bright and bold with the occasional spotlight on the show host or our contestants as they compete. Option to add in a direct overhead spotlight on the heartbeat content.
The bright studio lighting combined with shooting digital will ensure the overall tone has a modern and clean take on retro Game Show studios.

HEARTBEAT
HEARTBEAT CONTENT
We can shoot the hands overhead on a block colour background. The edge can be framed by LED circle bulbs to hint at the Game Show aesthetic.
As time runs out, the bulbs light up fast, one by one in a circle around the frame.
Each task can have a different colour background e.g. Christmas pudding has a red background, eggs have a yellow
background, beans have a blue background.

CHALLENGES

THE BIG Q UNIVERSE
I loved your ideas for the ridiculous and odd tasks the contestant hands must complete! I felt really inspired by the Game Show universe so I have come up with a few options that can be filmed in this setting for the hero and heartbeat content, to tie them together in the same Game Show aesthetic and tone.

CHALLENGES
SQUARE PEG ROUND HOLE
The Show Host tasks the contestant with fitting a square peg into a round hole; a fun visual at the same time as totally impossible.
When the contestant is at boiling point, a ‘magic assistant’ hand pops into frame with a pretty hammer. The contestant furiously hammers the square peg into the round hole.
Option to have the Barclays app contestant smoothly hammer it in at the end with one tiny tap of the hammer.
COUNTDOWN PI
The Show Host asks the contestant to write out the Pi sequence - almost impossible! They write on a board ‘Carol vorderman style’. Against the clock, they write frantically until no space is left. When our Barclays app contestant is finished, contestant two turns around with panic across their face and numbers scribbled on their cheek. The app contestant finishes off the sequence for them by writing a final number on their nose.

CHALLENGES
CHALLENGES
PHONE A FRIEND
The host asks the contestant one of ‘life’s big questions’.
They are deep in thought, with crazed expressions, a bead of sweat rolls down their forehead.
Our Barclays app contestant completes their task and offers their phone to the contestant asking if they want to ‘phone a friend’, to reference another game show.
OR pipes up with their profound version of the answer - they had time to think about this while completing the Barclays app task because it’s just that fast to use.

CHALLENGES
CARD TOWER
The Show Host tasks the contestant with building a perfect card tower. As they struggle to reach the top, our Barclays app contestant places the final card and even balances their phone on top. OR The pile comes crumbling down and our Barclays app contestant has had time to complete the app task, download a solitaire app and play an entire card game on their phone.

CHALLENGES
RUBIKS CUBE
The Show Host tasks the contestant with completing a Rubiks Cube. As they struggle to finish it, the Barclays App contestant reaches one hand over and fixes the final cube for them while their other hand is on the phone, still looking at their phone screen.

SOUND
SOUND
When we cut to the Barclays app contestant, quirky fun but relaxed elevator music plays to amplify the sense of how easy it is for them.
We can contrast this by cutting back to the frantic contestant and playing intense heavy metal music with close ups on their panicked face.
When our contestant wins we can have audience applause sound effects.
In the heartbeat content we can do the same with sound by having the elevator music on the hand that’s on the app and the intense music on the hand on the task.
THANK YOU!
